Info and All the Things...
What do you absolutely want to pack?
Your swimsuit if you’re going to the spa, a jacket for the evening in case it’s cool, comfortable walking shoes, Tylenol, Ibuprofen, you know, stuff like that.
What do I mean when I say “comfortable”?
Not heels 😂but feel free to wear them; I’m bringing something I can walk in. I had surgery on my foot in October, so please don’t let me stop you from wearing all the things (and of course, you won’t because you’re over 40, right?) I’m so ready for that 40+ energy y'all!!!!
What would I like for my birthday?
Seriously, sharing this space feels like a gift for me… it IS a gift for me. Because you know me, you know I’m not picky, super high maintenance, and chill at the same time. So many things have happened in the last few years, and I simply have a ton of gratitude for just being here. Bring whatever your heart desires; “you” are a gift to me.
Food & Things
Talva is treating us to breakfast on my birthday. For other things, you may want to have a Cash App or Zelle handy. They’ll likely only allow one payment method. I’m happy to be the payment method, and you can use Cash App, Zelle, or Apple Pay. Cashapp: $TalkConsulting, Zelle & Apple Pay 262.422.8281
Getting to the Hotel
The hotel doesn’t have a shuttle, so you’ll need to uber. The address is 2650 Las Vegas Blvd S, Las Vegas, NV 89109. Text me when you’re mobile and I’ll meet you in the lobby!
The Birthday Girl
About JoLanda / Jo / Sis / Lil Sis / Sister
Favorite color purple, favorite food Mexican, favorite movie “What About Bob” - from Illinois lives in Wisconsin, advice to myself on aging gracefully... “Surround yourself with women who are living well and take notes.”
Reasons I love her...
Oh My Word. Not even sure where to begin. So many reasons to love this girl!!! At this moment, I love her for creating a space to be surrounded by women whom she loves, admires, and desires to do life with. I love her willingness to do for herself what she’d quickly do for someone else and to capture the moment as an Ebenezer of what has been true of her beautiful, vibrant, God-designed life. I’m impressed she’s slowed down enough to be present in this space. AND I LOVE that she’s survived and that turning 40 is a sacred milestone because she never imagined she’d live to see it.
Something I’ve learned from her...
If people knew the real you, they’d only love you more!
Allyson
About Allyson
Favorite color is hot pink, favorite food Mexican, favorite movie “The Color Purple” - she’s from Wisconsin and lives in California, advice on aging gracefully “Stay healthy, Drink a lot of Water, Get a lot of sleep, Rest, and Don’t Stand for BS.”
Reasons I love her...
Meet Allyson, who I affectionately say was the best part of living in LA. She’s been down like four flat tires and willing to ride until the wheels fall off. I’ve always admired her boldness, laughter, and freedom to be authentic. She didn’t judge me when I was afraid of getting sand in my flip flops (I’ll let her share the video of that, lol). AND her hugs are oily when you need them.
Something I’ve learned from her...
Be who you are and love every minute of it.
Ane
About Ane
Favorite color is black, white & fuchsia, favorite movie “The Color Purple”, favorite food Oriental, she’s from Knoxville and lives in Vegas, advice on aging gracefully “Your Journey Has a Voice so Let it Speak.”
Reasons I love her...
Introducing Ane - her passion, love, and commitment to sisterhood runs deep. One day, she was sitting in my room and said, “Jo, wouldn’t it be something if we were both pregnant at the same time?” *insert eye roll because I thought I was DONE having babies* within a year, we were both pregnant with boys. Come to think of it, she looked at me when I was pregnant with my 2nd child and said, “Lil sis, you’re pregnant,” to which I denied… and 13 years later, there’s an entire kid here.
Something I’ve learned from her...
I get to change, grow, and evolve. Oh, and listen if she say’s I’m pregnant... lol
Antonina
About Antonina
Favorite color is green, favorite food is Seafood & Mexican, one of her favorite movies is “Love Jones,” She lives in Vegas but is from Wisconsin and her advice on aging gracefully “Age is nothing but a number and each year gets better.”
Reasons I love her...
I’ve admired Antonina since I was a little girl. There were quite a few “young adults” around me to look up to, but Antonina lived her life differently. I loved how she loved God, embraced her differences, and walked confidently. When she spoke - I actually listened. Even if I pretended I didn’t listen, I always took notes. As an adult, she invited me into a space where I would meet millionaires and learn a trajectory to becoming one. The entrepreneurial exposure she introduced me to, set me up to hit my first six figures in business.
Something I’ve learned from her...
I can always go to God.
Ashleigh
About Ashleigh
She loves all colors, though she is drawn to earth colors— browns, greens, and blues; breakfast foods are her favorite, she enjoys musical theater productions such as Tina Turner, Temptations and Motown, she was born and currently lives in South Carolina, and she is discovering what it means to age gracefully.
Reasons I love her...
When I met Ashleigh, her dopeness oozed from her pores, and her authenticity was contagious. At least once in 87% of our phone calls or Facetime, it involves catching our breath from laughter. She was there for me (literally on Facetime) when I accidentally cut inches off my hair, taking my twist out, and like a good sistah-friend would, she started sending me cute bob styles that could make the cut work. She embodies love in action.
Something I’ve learned from her...
You can say hard things gracefully and with a beautiful smile.
Denisha
About Denisha
Favorite color is cobalt blue, favorite food Lobster / German Chocolate Cake, favorite movie “My Cousin Vinny,” she is from Chicago and lives in Phoenix, and her advice on aging gracefully, “Don’t forget to Live Love.”
Reasons I love her...
Rooms light up when Denisha walks in. I love that we connect on the major ways life has happened to us and have a shared faith that God is at work. After our house fire, Denisha called and said, “Sis, what are you wearing?” I hadn’t realized it was the middle of the day, and I still had on the pajamas from the fire. In about an hour, she came where I was with an entire outfit, shoes, and we went to lunch. I was SO sad when I helped her pack to move to Arizona, but I was also so HAPPY because she deserves every bit of goodness life has for her, including warm weather and beautiful scenery.
Something I’ve learned from her...
God always shows up.
Emerald
About Emerald
Favorite color to wear is orange; favorite color for home decor is navy blue and green; favorite movie is “Antwon Fisher”, favorite food is Tapas; she’s from Illinois and lives in Wisconsin; advice on aging gracefully “Laugh often, even at yourself, take nothing and no one too seriously.”
Reasons I love her...
When Emerald got married, she invited me to be the Matron of Honor at her wedding, and I love that I’ve been able to walk with her in sacred spaces over the last few years. From book writing to soul healing, having a front-row seat to the handiwork of God has been amazing. Our bond makes me 100% confident Emerald will fight for me in rooms I’m not in. She’s emceed my largest and probably most successful business event to date, and she managed the room like the gem she is. She was so aware of all the things, and I’m pretty sure I survived the day because of her, and she was simply being “her.”
Something I’ve learned from her...
People are watching and paying attention, even if you don’t think they are.
Kia
About Kia
She has a few favorite colors, but green is at the top, favorite food is Mexican steak tacos, followed by Italian; she’s from Wisconsin but lives in Florida, and her advice on aging gracefully is “Embrace and enjoy YOU, who you are, who you have become, and how important YOU are.”
Reasons I love her...
I can text her at one, two, or three in the morning to say, “Sis, how are you doing?” Or “Big sis, you up?” and I literally don’t think she’s ever not responded to my text at random hours. If we go back and forth for five minutes or an hour, there will for sure be a GIF or three shared. From Milwaukee to Miami, she’s pretty much a force and pioneer in everything she does. Where paths weren’t created, she’s created them, AND she creates roads for others to follow. I told her I was trying to figure out my life, and when I mentioned what I “might” want to do, she said, “Okay, I’m going to make sure you do it.”
Something I’ve learned from her...
Go BIG when it comes to your dreams and take care of yourself in the process.
Linda
About Linda
Favorite color Prussian blue, favorite food braised ribs in wine sauce with polenta and pizza always works, favorite movie “Black Panther 1&2” - she’s from and lives in North Carolina and her advice on aging gracefully “Care well for yourself today because your future self is depending on you and will thank you.”
Reasons I love her...
It’s a beautiful thing when someone comes into your life and they have an “impact,” it’s another level when they come into your life and who they are invites you on a journey of transformation. To be seen, known, and loved without judgment is a gift, and it’s one that Linda has shared with me. In most spaces, I have to be “on.” Her presence welcomes me to turn “off” and just be. I have so much honor and respect for the grace she embodies. Completely unassuming and unbothered, please know she is super oily and yet super relatable. Sometimes, we don’t know what we need, but I’m glad Abba knew I needed Linda as a big sister and friend in my life.
Something I’ve learned from her...
It’s okay to own my brilliance.
Marissa
About Marissa
Favorite color is royal blue and gold, favorite movie “The Color Purple” and “Rocky IV,” favorite food is Steak & Seafood; she’s from St. Louis and lives there; her advice on aging gracefully “The best part of aging is that you no longer give a f*ck @ what other people think.”
Reasons I love her...
Her inner strength radiates, touching the lives around her, including mine. On a random business trip, she and I met up for breakfast, and when we were done, we went outside, and my rental car tire was flat. Before I could start thinking of a plan, she said, “What do we need to do? I’m not leaving you.” It’s the “I’m not leaving you” part for me. Neither of us knew how long it would take to figure it out, but it didn’t matter to her. Everybody needs somebody willing to say I won’t leave you, even when your actual, or metaphorical tire is flat. The sentiment from my heart to hers is so mutual. Oh, and her dance moves are not to be dismissed... she will create an entire party for her strong friends to dance and let their hair down.
Something I’ve learned from her...
Even the strong friend needs a safe place where strength is not required.
